Band saw dust collection. The band saw create a tremendous amount of fine dust. Your lungs just arent manly enough any more to digest a big load of trash every day and the romance of covering every surface in the shop with a thick layer of dust has long since faded away. Ive actually been frustrated for a while now. I suppose i could drill a hole in the lower cover and attach a second hose to the bandsaw for better dust collection but im not so sure im ready to permanently modify my bandsaw like that just yet.
Dust collection port with a shop made shroud that makes bandsawing virtually dust free. The volume of air that this small port could collect isnt enough to keep up with the amount of sawdust that the saw can produce. Before recent improvements in bandsaw design dust control wasnt always a straightforward proposition. My bandsaw is a delta 14 saw and the only design of any dust collection is a very small port located just below the blade where a vacuum could be attached.
Dust collection is critical both from a health perspective and a productivity perspective. Today i build a dust collection port that attaches directly below the table of my 14 bandsaw with rare earth magnets. My shrouds intake port is much larger see photo and exploded view below. Is there any way to get dust collection to work on a delta 14 band saw.
Most newer bandsaws have built in dust ports now but heres how we used to handle it. Bandsaw table dust collection the dust collection on my saw needs to be removable to allow blade changes and angling the table. Almost all the waste is driven straight down through the table into the lower half of the saw housing with very little urge or opportunity to get away. I have a penn state dust collection system that works well for all other shop tools.
I replaced my bandsaws wimpy 1 12 in. It aint pretty but it works. The dust you see on the bandsaw base is coming from the fairly large gap 116 left by the lower wheel cover when it is attached. I came up with a simple and inexpensive way to better control the fine dust produced from the bandsaw.
Bandsaw dust control that works as the tendrils of creeping decrepitude drape ever more tightly about you making dust in the shop becomes less and less of a thrill. My shop is a mess after i finish a resawing session with walnut.
